Fighting Fat
This is a guide, written in simple language, for young people who think they may be overweight. It helps a young person understand what being overweight means and offers practical tips on how to work on a weight problem. Helping a young person decide on the best way to deal with their weight in a way that suits their personal lifestyle, it takes a look at their eating patterns, portion sizes, and the type of foods they are eating, but more importantly, the reasons why they overeat in the first place. It provides great guidance on healthy eating and exercise and also looks at the emotional side of weight gain, which may lead to low self-esteem, poor body image and bullying.
There is also a DVD, an optional accompaniment to this guide, which is a short factual film about the highly successful obesity management programme in Sheffield called SHINE. The DVD highlights the changes that the young people of SHINE have made, providing encouragement to other young people who may be facing the same issues. » ORDER HERE

The information covered includes areas that are often not spoken about such as bullying and also some of the reasons why eating behaviours develop. By raising awareness and offering useful strategies for making changes, the booklet gives young people some excellent tools to make lasting changes in their lives."
